About Daily Word
Each day sets a single five-letter target word and allows six attempts to identify it. The colour of the tiles after each attempt narrows the field: green confirms a letter and its square, yellow confirms the letter but rules out that square, and grey removes the letter from consideration. The puzzle rewards disciplined elimination rather than inspiration — steady solvers open with a word rich in common letters, then spend the middle attempts testing positions instead of repeating what is already settled. Everyone receives the same word, so the difficulty of a given day is shared.
How to Play
Enter any ordinary five-letter word to submit a guess. Green marks a correct letter in the correct square, yellow a correct letter elsewhere, grey a letter that does not appear. Six attempts are allowed, and the next word is set at midnight.
💡 Tips & Strategy
Open with a word that tests five common letters at once. Words built from E, A, R, O, T, L, I, S and N — such as RAISE, SLATE or CRANE — typically light up two or three tiles and leave you with real information instead of a blank row.
Spend the second guess on fresh letters rather than rearranging the ones you found. If your opener returns a single yellow, a word testing five entirely new letters screens ten letters in two moves and usually narrows the answer to a handful of candidates.
Mind repeated letters, which is where most streaks die. A green L does not rule out a second L, and words like LEVEL, SKILL or ERROR are exactly the ones that survive four guesses. If the pattern will not resolve, ask whether a doubled letter explains it.
Use common shapes to finish. Many answers end in ER, LY or ED and open with blends like ST, CR, SH or TH, so a stray consonant often belongs at one end rather than the middle. On the fifth guess, prefer the word that cannot be wrong in more than one position.
