About Word Wheel
The letter wheel from the puzzle pages: eight letters set around a ninth in the middle. Every answer must run to three letters or more, must contain the central letter, and may use each of the outer letters only once — nothing repeats here, which is what separates it from a spelling bee. Somewhere in each wheel there is a single nine-letter word that consumes the whole set, and finding it is the real object of the exercise. The dependable method is to fix on a plausible ending and then test which of the remaining letters can sit in front of it.
How to Play
Build words of three letters or more from the nine on the wheel. The centre letter must appear in every word, and no outer letter may be used twice. One word uses all nine letters. Longer answers score more.
💡 Tips & Strategy
Go hunting for the nine-letter word early, because it is worth the most and it tends to reveal shorter words along the way. Look for familiar beginnings and endings among the letters — prefixes like RE, UN, DIS and PRE, suffixes like ING, ION, ED, ERS and ABLE — and see what the remaining letters could form between them.
Work systematically through the centre letter, since every answer must contain it. Pair it with each other letter in turn and ask what words start or continue from that pair. It is a far more productive sweep than staring at the wheel as a whole.
Mine your own answers. Once you have a valid word, check whether it takes an S, an ED or an ER from the remaining letters, and whether dropping a letter leaves another word. Families of related words are the quickest way to build a score.
Watch the once-only rule. Each wheel letter may be used a single time per word, so a word needing a doubled letter is invalid unless that letter genuinely appears twice on the wheel — this is the most common reason a real word gets rejected.
