About Power Grid
A network of cables, junctions and terminals has been scrambled, every tile rotated at random, and the task is to turn each one until current flows from the central station to every endpoint. The reasoning is quietly rigorous: a straight cable against a border has only one orientation that does not run off the board, a terminal cannot face a blank edge, and each tile fixed in place constrains its neighbours in turn. Lit tiles show how far the power has spread, which makes the remaining tangles easy to find. Larger boards, and boards that wrap around their edges, extend the challenge considerably.
How to Play
Tap a tile to rotate it a quarter turn. Every cable end must meet a matching end on the next tile — nothing may point at a blank edge or off the board. The puzzle is finished when current from the centre reaches every terminal on the grid.
💡 Tips & Strategy
Anchor on the border. The scrambled tiles look uniform, but a straight cable on the edge has only one legal orientation on a non-wrapping board, and a terminal on the edge cannot point outward. Fix the whole perimeter first and the interior inherits a frame of certainties.
Then reason by mutual consent: a connection exists only if both tiles agree. A tile that cannot point toward its neighbour in any remaining orientation forbids that neighbour from pointing back, and a tile whose every remaining orientation points somewhere makes that connection compulsory for the other side. Work in ripples outward from anything you fix.
Count ends before you twist. Terminals contribute one cable end each, and every connection consumes two, so the network is a tree — it has no loops. Any rotation that would close a ring of cable is wrong even though every local joint looks happy. Spotting a nascent ring early saves unwinding a whole region later.
On wrapping boards the border trick disappears, so replace it with the lit region. Power spreads from the centre, and the lit tiles are confirmed correct in practice — expand from the glowing frontier, and treat any rotation that extinguishes a lit branch as the mistake it is. Fix the sparse areas before the dense junctions; a lone cable crossing empty space has far fewer possibilities than a crowded crossroads.
