Simon

Reproduce a sequence of lights and tones that grows by one each round.

About Simon

Four coloured panels light in sequence, each with a tone of its own, and the sequence must be played back exactly. One step is added every round, so the demand rises from trivial to considerable within a couple of minutes. The task is serial recall, and the two senses assist one another: those who leave the sound on tend to hold longer runs, because a short melody is easier to remember than a list of colours. A single wrong panel ends the attempt, which makes the last few steps of a long run the hardest part.

How to Play

Begin a round; the panels will light in order, each sounding its own note. Play the sequence back by pressing those panels in that order. Every round answered correctly adds one further step.

💡 Tips & Strategy

Say the sequence rather than watching it. Turning colours into words or numbers as they flash — red, green, green, blue — recruits verbal memory alongside visual, and verbal sequences hold roughly twice as long.

Chunk in groups of three or four. Long sequences are unmanageable as single lists but easy as a handful of short groups, which is why phone numbers are written the way they are.

Use the sound. Each pad carries its own tone, so the sequence becomes a short melody — and melodic memory is remarkably robust once a pattern repeats.

Stay calm on the replay. Most failures at high rounds are rushed inputs rather than forgotten sequences, so tap at a steady pace and trust the chunk you rehearsed.
