About Mahjong Solitaire
A hundred and forty-four tiles are stacked in the traditional layered arrangement and cleared in pairs, each pair showing the same face. A tile can only be lifted while it is free, meaning nothing rests upon it and one of its long sides is exposed, so the order of removal matters far more than the pace of it. The thinking is about unblocking: opening the layers that trap the tiles needed later, rather than taking the easiest pair in view and finding the board dead soon afterwards. Hints, a stuck detector and a limited shuffle are provided.
How to Play
Select a free tile, then select the tile bearing the same face to clear them both. Freedom means no tile above it, and an open edge to its left or to its right. Removing all 144 tiles completes the layout.
💡 Tips & Strategy
Look at the whole board before your first match. Some tiles sit under several layers, and taking an easy pair early can bury the one tile its partner needs. The order of removals is almost the entire game.
Match the pairs that free the most tiles beneath them. A tile capping two others is worth far more than one on the edge of a flat row, even when both are legal.
When three or four of a kind are visible, think before taking any two. Choosing the wrong two can leave the remaining pair blocked by each other, which is the classic way a winnable layout becomes unwinnable.
Work the long horizontal rows early. They block the most tiles from the sides, and clearing them opens up the middle of the layout where the real congestion sits.
