Two-handed rummy, where reading the discards matters as much as the draw.
About Gin Rummy
Gin Rummy gives each player ten cards to organise into runs of one suit or sets of matching rank, with whatever will not fit counted as deadwood. You may knock once your deadwood falls to ten points or fewer, which ends the hand and scores the difference against your opponent. The information war is the real game: every card taken from the discard pile announces what its owner is building, and every card you throw is a gift or a trap depending on how closely you have been watching. Knocking early with a modest margin is often better than holding for Gin, because an opponent who is nearly ready can undercut you and take the points instead.
How to Play
Begin a turn by taking a card from either the stock or the discard pile, and end it by throwing one away. Melds are runs in one suit, such as 7-8-9 of hearts, or three and four of a kind. Knock at ten deadwood points or fewer; clear every card for Gin and the full bonus.
💡 Tips & Strategy
Keep your deadwood low from the first turn, not just at the end. Knocking early with a small count beats holding a hand that might become gin — the extra points rarely repay the risk of your opponent going out first.
Watch every discard your opponent makes and, just as carefully, every one they take. A card picked from the discard pile tells you which meld they are building, and it is worth holding a card that would help them even at a small cost to your own count.
Prefer cards with two ways to develop. A 7 and 8 of the same suit can become a run in either direction and is worth more than a pair that needs one specific card. Discard the cards with the fewest outs first.
Late in a hand, unload high cards even from promising melds. An unmatched king is ten points against you, and a meld that needs a card nobody has discarded is unlikely to complete before someone knocks.
