FreeCell

Every card visible from the first move; almost every deal can be solved.

About FreeCell

FreeCell deals all fifty-two cards face up, which removes hidden information entirely and turns the game into a planning exercise rather than a gamble. Four cells each hold a single card as temporary parking, while the columns are built downward in alternating colours and the foundations fill from the Aces upward. How many cards you can shift in one move is governed by what you have left free: multiply the empty cells plus one by the empty columns plus one, and that is your limit. Nearly every shuffle is solvable, so a loss is almost always a planning error — usually a cell filled early with a card nothing can release.

How to Play

Tableau columns descend in alternating colours; foundations ascend by suit. Each of the four cells parks exactly one card. Count your free cells and empty columns before starting a long move — they set how much you can carry.

💡 Tips & Strategy

Almost every deal is winnable, so a loss is nearly always a planning error rather than bad luck. That changes how you should play: think before the first move rather than after the tenth.

The supermove formula governs everything. You can shift a sequence of up to free cells plus one, multiplied by empty columns plus one, cards at a time. Four free cells and one empty column move ten cards; fill two of those cells and the same move collapses to six. Count before you commit.

Keep the free cells empty. They are working space, not storage, and a card parked in one is unavailable until something opens beneath it. A single stranded card can cost the game forty moves later.

Dig out the aces early but keep low cards in play a little longer, and prefer emptying a column entirely over slightly improving two. An empty column is worth more than any amount of tidy sequencing.
