About Crazy Eights
Crazy Eights is the ancestor of a good many commercial shedding games, and its rules fit in a sentence: lay down any card sharing a suit or a rank with whatever is showing on the pile, or play an eight and nominate the suit yourself. The subtlety is in sequencing. Emptying your longest suit first keeps you playable, while holding an eight back as an escape route is usually worth more than the card you would clear by spending it now. Track what your opponents refuse to follow and you will know which suit to name when your eight finally goes down.
How to Play
Play a card matching the suit or the rank of the pile\'s top card. An eight is wild and lets you name the suit that follows. Draw from the stock when nothing plays. Empty your hand to end the round and score the cards left in the other hands.
💡 Tips & Strategy
Hold your eights until they matter. They are your only universal card, and spending one to change a suit you could have matched anyway leaves you defenceless later when you genuinely cannot follow.
Shed your long suit first. Playing from the suit you hold most of keeps the most onward options open, and it avoids the trap of ending with several cards of a suit nobody is playing.
Watch what opponents cannot follow. When a player draws on a particular suit, they are void in it — steering play back to that suit forces more draws from them and slows their hand down.
Count high cards near the end. Being caught holding a face card or an eight when someone else goes out is where most of the points are lost, so unload the expensive cards once the hand is clearly a race.
